The app is available for both Android and iOS. On July 12, 2021, the developers have released the Obsidian mobile app for everyone. Publish lets you publish your notes on the Internet while Sync allows you to synchronize your notes across multiple devices. There is also an add-on option to pay for Obsidian Publish and Sync. You do have the option to pay for Catalyst but this is only for giving support to the developers and having early access to insider builds. The app itself is completely free! You don’t need to pay for anything to make use of its features or plugins.

Obsidian is highly customizable, allowing you to change its appearance and install third-party plugins to suit your needs. I use it to check if there are orphaned notes (notes with no links).

Using Graph View is a nice way to see all your notes from a bird’s eye view. Instead, it uses a plain-text Markdown (.md) file format that can be opened by most applications like Notepad. Obsidian does not use a proprietary file format to store your notes. These are like the blue links that you can find on Wikipedia. Obsidian makes use of Internal Links (or Wikilinks) which lets you connect from one note to another. If you are familiar with Roam Research, then this app is more or less similar. You can use it as a knowledge base or just a way to keep notes in a vault. Obsidian is an offline Markdown-based note-taking app.
